Friends Don’t Let friends blog late
I’m sitting in bed at exactly 2 AM typing something that I know I’ll look at in the morning and scratch my head at, but it’s been entirely to long since I’ve scribbled something down and felt the urge to blog.
I’m entirely too tired and exhausted from a busy…. well, month. It seems like every time I get a chance to catch my breathe, it’s time to shift gears and go again. From Beach Retreat to a new Junior High service to Battle of the Burgers it’s been a very busy season. I’ve grown accustom to this pattern as it is our 10th year in ministry. Things get busy and ministry is fluid. In my early years in ministry I would wind up and never stop. This is what you call BURNOUT. So with the years comes wisdom and with wisdom came the ability to gauge where I was at physically, mentally and spiritually. Now when things rev up (and they always do) I know I have to be faithful in scheduling some down time. A good balance that I’ve found is the 7 plan. For every 7 days I need to take a sabbath. For every 7 weeks we try to plan a small 2 day excursion somewhere together. Every 7 months we’d like to take a vacation. And every 7 years we want to plan a good trip and some time off away from everything.
These aren’t the rules but rather guidelines we’re learning to live with. Sometimes there are seasons that are just going to be busier than the others, and that’s ok. As long as we are aware and faithful to plan some down time a little later, things seem to balance themselves out. I’ve known too many people who operate their ministry out of an unbalanced lifestyle. They hurt themselves and their family in the name of God and ministry. I could fill a chapter on the things I’ve learned about the sabbath, but I just realized that I’ve been rambling.
Well, since this is one of THOSE blogs I’ll just throw in some other non related information.
I’m now 9 pounds away from loosing a total of 100 pounds. I really do feel great.
Elli is in the early stages of walking for the first time.
I decided I really like “Dyers” hot wings.
The Rockies are in the playoffs… and still no one cares (sorry Philly fans)
I really despise the winter.
The Broncos need a whole NEW defense. AGAIN!
My wife is really hot.
I wish there was more mexican food in our area.
I wish there was more … well, anything in our area.
I still lock all my doors at night (even my automobiles).
I will never get used to that smell that emanates from the country.
And it is entirely too early to sell Christmas decorations in October!
This is why you don’t blog at 2 in the morning…
